Our tiny jewel was born on January 8, 2016, at 26 weeks and 4 days due to Chorioamnionitis (an infection in the amniotic fluid). She was delivered via C-section at 1:41pm weighing only 2lbs. 5oz. and measuring 14 inches long. She was so tiny that her cries couldn't be heard through the incubator. I was able to see her for a minute and then she was whisked off to the NICU. Adeline enter the NICU with respiratory distress Syndrome, jaundice, poor oral feeding, apnea & bradycardia, and retinopathy of prematurity Stage 1, anemia and was treated for possible sepsis among other things.
Like many preemie parents we had no idea the journey that we were about to embark on. Kipp was able to see our baby girl about an hour after she was born; it takes a little while to stabilize a preemie in the NICU. I was unable to get out of bed due to my c-section, so I didn't get to see her again until 12:45 am. the following morning.
Kipp brought me her tiny feet prints and a photo that the nurses took, and I looked at them while I waited to see her. Our sweet girl was 14 weeks early, we had not had a chance to decide on a name for her, after two days we chose a name for our tiny jewel – Adeline Rose.
Finally on January 19, I was able to hold Adeline for the first time. She was so tiny it didn't feel like I was holding anything. Kipp waited and held her for the first time on February 21. Kipp's wedding band fit around Adeline's wrist at a month old.
Adeline was cared for by the most amazing staff. Together we celebrated milestones and were disappointed when there were set backs. The TGMC NICU Staff was with us the entire way. They became a part of our family.
On Thursday, March 25, we received the call we had been waiting for, we could room in with Adeline for the first time and if all went well we would take her home. On Good Friday we brought our sweet Adeline Rose home to meet her two brothers for the first time. She graduated from the NICU weighing 6lbs. 5oz. and measuring 19 inches long. We spent a total of 77 days in the Terrebonne General Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She came home 17 days before her due date.
Adeline is active and independent. She has reach all of her milestones. We have been truly blessed with her and her brothers. It is because of the Terrebonne General Medical Center NICU & Staff that we are blessed to have our sweet Adeline here with us today.
